Ovarian Cancer Survival
Rates
Your prognosis depends on
your lifestyle, and most importantly the stage of the tumor when it was diagnosed. Your age may also play an
important role in the prognosis. From 2002-2006, the median age at death for cancer of the ovary was 71 years of
age; ages and percentages of people died during this period were approximately:
- 0.1% under age
20;
- 0.7% between 20 and
34;
- 3.0% between 35 and
44;
- 11.3% between 45 and
54;
- 19.7% between 55 and
64;
- 24.4% between 65 and
74;
- 28.1% between 75 and
84;
- 12.7% 85+ years of
age.
It is also shown a racial
difference in the ovarian cancer survival rates. The overall 5-year relative survival rate for 1999-2005 from 17
SEER (Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results) geographic areas was 45.9%. Five-year relative survival rates
by race were:
- 45.8% for white
women
- 37.4% for black
women.
